5 Reasons Why PC’s Are Still Mac Competitors

In recent years it’s become painfully clear that Apple products are consumer favorites  People flock to Apple stores and stand in line for hours just for the newest products. Microsoft hasn’t had that kind of reception in a while and many are predicting that PC’s will soon become obsolete. We’re not believers in this theory and here’s a few reasons why:

[success]1. Cost[/success]

ppc-iconUltimately, PC’s are more affordable in the long run. The same sized laptop costs roughly twice as much if it’s a Mac than any other PC competitor. Also considering the fact that Apple computer go through updates roughly every 6 months (and with each software update your computer gets slower) it becomes necessary to trade out that Mac every 2 years or less. This isn’t the case for PC’s – longevity is what they are all about and their software is much more functional. It’s true that Mac’s can run Windows programs, but then what’s the point of the original software on a Mac if you’re just going to use Windows anyway?

[success]2. Gamers[/success]

usabilityThis is a huge market where Mac’s just fall short – they aren’t gamer friendly. Unless you’re willing to throw down large amounts of cash, PC’s are the way to go for the gamer community. This is because Windows allows for performance boosting with better graphics cards and PC’s are wildly flexible in terms of customization. Not to mention the fact that all games are compatible with Windows. Mac’s can’t even compete in this area – to do the same customization on a Mac, gamers would not only have to spend massive sums but they’d also be dismissing their warranty, which of course isn’t the case with PC’s.

[success]3. Viruses[/success]

virusThere’s a myth going on out there that Mac’s are immune to viruses – well sorry folks, but that’s false. Mac’s can and do in fact get attacked by viruses. The difference (through research) is that Mac’s are immune to PC viruses – not all viruses. What does this mean for PC owners? Not much, really. Ultimately it means invest in a good antivirus program, don’t install anything on a whim, and run security checks often.

[success]4. User Friendly[/success]

like-intrestingThe main selling point a Mac owner will throw at you is that Mac’s are “easy to use”. Sure, that may be true, but there’s still a learning curve to fully understand all the applications on a Mac computer. And who said PC’s were complicated in the first place? With windows programs being highly accessible it’s pretty unlikely that a PC owner has no idea how to use their device.

[success]5. Design[/success]

storeLet’s be real for a minute – Mac’s are designed to look nice. Mac’s are the pretty, popular cheerleader when it comes to the world of laptops and computers. They even used Giselle Bundchen in one of their ads: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNnX6XRQBec) What do looks really mean? To the average consumer, not much. The majority of consumers will choose their devices based on their personal usage needs and not on whether or not having a certain device makes them look stylish

[error]We aren’t out to bash Mac computers – they’ve proved to be useful for millions of users – we’re simply against dismissing the PC. What’s your opinion on the PC vs. Mac debate? Let us know in the comments section![/error]

Good post; it’s hard because I love my apple products but my dad (a computer guy) has used PC and bought PC his whole life. Not to mention, PC has some sick new designs out (and coming out), making my next computer purchase quite the struggle. (I swore I was going to get a mac and now idk). Thanks for the info!

I think the only two things that attract the young generation to buy a Mac are their stylish looks and the brand name. Even I am thinking about buying a Mac just because it looks cool.

But I totally agree with you regarding user friendliness, I find PCs are easier to use.

Very informative! Wow I didn’t know about the fact that Mac books aren’t gamer friendly. Mac books are definitely overrated; I have always loved PC over Mac.

If you look at the cost of buying a PC vs. buying a Mac book, there is no way you can choose Mac over PC. It’s really not worth to pay that much money only for its look when functionally it can do half as much work. Great writing, keep going!
