3 NHL Advertising Strategies

The playoffs are literally right around the corner and we all know what that means! Specials at our favorite pubs, 39 cent wings, and the town covered in team colors. This may not sound like complex advertising, but there’s a lot that goes into getting people hyped up for upcoming NHL playoffs. Here’s a few examples:

flagEveryone’s got at least one and if you don’t this is probably the year you’ll get one. It’s hitting two birds with one stone, if you really think about it. Buying a jersey is a way to literally show everyone just how much of a fan and supporter you are. It’s also free walking advertisements all around the city. People sport their jersey’s on game day so if anyone forgot about the game tonight, those thousands of people all dressed the same will be a good hint

johnnycanuckThey get you every time. No longer just on the sports channels, now every ten minutes in between your favorite sitcom comes a blasting commercial about the NHL playoffs. You can try changing the channel but chances are they are airing on every single one.Although, few people seem to mind, and it really does sort of brainwash everyone to be the best fan they can be, even if it’s just for the last few weeks.

[success]3. Billboards and Posters[/success]

greenmenThese are probably the most genius form of NHL advertising. They are everywhere you look: driving on the highway in your car, at the bus stop, right next to all the fast food restaurants, and the list goes on forever. Best of all are the catchy taglines they use on these posters to pull you in. Every city has one from Vancouver’s “We Are All Canucks” to Toronto Maple Leafs “The Passion That Unites Us All”.

    My favourite topic: Canucks. The fact that play offs are only THREE days away makes me think of the “e-card” that states the following ; “Public service announcement: Life will be postponed due to playoff hockey until further notice.”

    Is there a better description of Vancouverites? I don’t think so!!!

    Other potential participants include advertising agencies who help generate and place the ad copy, an ad server who technologically delivers the ad and tracks statistics, and advertising affiliates who do independent promotional work for the advertiser.-;.,
