In order to gain respect, you need to show respect to those around you. Let them know that you appreciate their knowledge and years of experience. Flattery will get you everywhere, but only if it is genuine. And don’t be afraid to take advice, after all that’s exactly what is expected of you. No one is rooting for you to fail, so in order to get ahead, be humble and learn as many lessons as you can.

This may not seem fair, but in order to maintain your place, you need to show initiative and conviction to your job at all times. Remember, your knowledge got you your job, and there’s nothing wrong with having to prove that every so often.
